Yep. They were in the game at 1st edition, named Squats. But apparently, just few gamers chose them for play.

Unless of course in Warhammer 40K RPG the Chaos Marine NPC fumbles his strike roll 3 times in a row and the player rolls "Rightous Fury" twice. Being a GM is a hard and sad live at times.

There's a moral in this. And its that you never question the height of a warrior. He could be one inch tall, but could still wipe out a squad of Chaos Mahreens.

Seriously they're becoming Blizzard by the minute (except with a lot less money, HEYOO~!).

Really cool work Nacho  I don't know who to root for though, I love both armies XD

I haven't been into 40k for all that long, so this is the first time I've heard of squats. Whoever they were, they look pretty epic, they should totally be back on the table.

Squats are basically dwarves in the 40k setting. They were a major faction in the early game, but after the grimdarkening set in the Squats suddenly disappeared from the canon for awhile before finally being referenced as having all been eaten by the Tyranids at some point. Now even mentioning them offhandedly gets you instabanned on the GamesWorkshop forums.

Reportedly GW decided the Squats were "too lighthearted" for the planned new, darker 40k setting.

Because apparently the Orks are to be taken completely seriously.

Haha, what an excuse. I don't really see the reason why they'd be 'too lighthearted', dwarves can be pretty grim if you want them to be.

I'd give my whole army to whoever can find someone who actually does take orks seriously xD

Squats are mutated humans (abhumans in imperial teminology) who lived on hazardous extreme worlds with high gravity. In epic they used land trains and armored zeppelins, as well as infamous hordes of trikers.
According to GW most of their worlds were devoured by a Tyranid swarm, but there seem to be connections to the Demiurg in Gothic.

Squats were analogous to dwarves from Warhammer Fantasy.
The race was dropped after quite a while for one reason or the other.
They've still got a load of fans in the older parts of the 40K-community though. :)
