My TF movie design by NachoMon My TF movie design by NachoMon
Well. After seeing TF movie I´ve been thinking.... This is the proposal I do for any new movie project. If the matter is to give them a more sleek and organic shape, OK, but not that kind of twisted scrap sculptures.

I don´t care about transformations because that ones seen on film are totally impossible. The matter is to get a cool look, isn´t?

I love this but yeah the Bay designs can be rather ... awkward but if I were to make a animated series , I would use these designs .
Although in your description , you came off as "MICAL BAI RUIND MAH CHLDHOD !!!!!" type

Not my childhood, just the japanese style of making super robots.

Not caring about transformations also means that take on Megatron happens to be an excellent model for powered armor...

Who's "J.J. Adams"? And for that matter, JJ Abrams has nothing to do with the Transformers movie... weird...

OK, I (mostly) love the Movie designs, especially for these two characters, and greatly disagree that the transformations would be impossible to accomplish in real life (especially after the releases of the Optimus Prime and Starscream figures within this last year), but I have to say there's definitely an appeal for these as well; they look almost anime-esque in terms of appearance and proportions. And I do quite like Megatron's face as well, it's not your typical Megatron, not resembling many common facial features, it almost looks halfway to being like Prime's faceplate, but still looks imposing and quite suitable for the character.

These designs are certainly sleeker than the scrap-tastic ones from the movie.

Bay's design worked in some instances but for the most part I think they went way overboard to the point of being impractical or making it a chiche'.

I mean there were scrap pieces where there shouldn't even BE metal!
I find your take on it much more conservative and practical. Perhaps a concept for a future TV series?

Yeah, I agree. many thanks. I would love to see design like these on a TV show sequel of the films.

I find the movies almost a parody of the japanese Super Robot genre, with the action element to give it a sort of substance. The robot names and the "cybertron-autobot-decepticon"story are on the movie because Hasbro give them the lisence, but that´s all.

It´s obvious that any japanese designer from Takara joined the team and all the design work was done here. West and East heve really different styles to imagine Super Robots. Western robots tend to appear more industrial style, while japanese robots were based originally on Samurai armors and use to have an elegance truly dinstinctive, even the more massive ones, like Evangelion,GaoGaigar or Mortar Headd. The idea to use insect-like designs for movie TFs to give them an Alien style isn´t bad, but the result is so ugly and dirty that ruins the concept.

Yeah because other than that there isn't really that much of a Transformers feel in the movie. The first movie was at least entertaining the second one
........a mistake of God.
(Grade school humor and confusing plot does NOT a good Transformers movie make):(

I do understand what you mean by robots of the two cultures and the bio mechanical design DID sound cool but they managed to eff it up anyway.
In fact anyone who can manage to screw up the awesome concept of giant robots turning into cars has just achieved fail on a whole new level.

Hey Nachomon, don't worry man I agree that the Michael Bay designs look like absolute shit and don't appear "realistic" at all.. Just fragmented and bionicle like.
That stupid overdone transforming animation where a thousand pieces fold in on itself making little ticking sounds is just total CG wankery and will look incredibly dated in a matter of a few years.
He took a big shit on the transformers franchise, how dare he take away the classic transforming sound??? , these designs you created are really really cool, very sexy. They remind me of GaoGaiGar.
Definitely an improvement on the horrific movie designs.

i think the cool look is important cause it changes how good the design is, which is really how good it can make ppl feel..and awesome designs, somewhere in the vein of animated and movie...just the right complexity.

Many Thanks. I didn´t expect to find on the movie exact copie from G-1 toys or cartoon, but now, you can find robots truly detailed and realistic on Binaltech or Masterpiece lines. Even these Classic-Henkei-Universe futuristic designs are cooler than these mechanis crustaceous... They said the idea was to create something totally new and alien-styled,in order to get more realism, but they neves considered to work with japanese Takara designers anyway. bad idea. The original TF spirit came from Japan.

First impression? Absolutely awesome. Ive never seen a streamlined design for Prime look so good before.

My only problem; why is Megatron still a gun? I still feel like it was one of the few things that the TF movies got right.

Yeah, so I think a huge warmachine form is better for movie Megatron. Just keep the basic shape of the robot: massive, elegant and with a recognizable cannon attached to his arm.

The idea of Megatron as transforming gun came from the original japanese Microman toy (it really was one of three gun-size small transforming robots, the MicroChange Gun Robo Units)Marvel created the Autobot-decepticon alien living robots concept for Hasbro but many of their ideas (like the size changing action for all the Microman-borrowed toy robots) cannot work on big screen.

I´m still a big fan of japanese TF anyways.

They're alright but a bit too cartoony looking and 'balloon' shaped parts. But then I consider most of the live action designs to be the best versions of the Transformers ever.

These certainly would have worked better for a cartoon than the godawful crap that was Transformers Animated though.
